New Report Projects Future Trends in the Concrete Mix, Concrete Pump & Volumetric Mixer Trucks Market in the US

DUBLIN, Ireland--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c62828) has announced the addition of The Manufacture of Concrete Mix, Concrete Pump & Volumetric Mixer Trucks in North America to their offering.

The delivery and placement of concrete with over-the-road vehicles is accomplished by three types of vehiclesconcrete mix trucks, concrete pump trucks and volumetric mixers.

While delivery/placement is the common theme for all three, surprisingly each area is occupied by different manufacturers, with almost no one carrying a full line in the North American market. This is in sharp contrast to Europe where the major players are more likely to be diversified across all types of vehicles.

There has been a small sea change in the traditional truck-mounted concrete mixer segments. McNeilus continues to be the 800-lb. gorilla with a dominating presence in rear-mounted mixers. However, for the front discharge types, the entry of Terex in 2002 has changed the industry dynamics in that there are now two large corporations vying against a host of much smaller closely-held companies. Terex has ambitions in the rear-mounted market also, and for the first time McNeilus has serious potential competition from a capitalized public entity. It is quite likely that the small remaining players in rear-discharge units will attempt to be merged into one or another of these two corporations, given the recent example of London Machinery selling out to Oshkosh/McNeilus.

Concrete pump trucks used to be a novelty in the U.S. and Canada, but now they are commonplace, not only for large commercial/industrial pours but also for residential construction. The market has been very strong and virtually doubled in the past four years. The technology for these has been the mainstay of the Europeans and Asians, and they continue to dominate the market through imported product.

Volumetric mixers remain a small part of the product mix and also primarily the domain of rather small manufacturers. However, for small pours and on-the-spot measures they have a huge advantage, being literally a batching, mixing and pour plant on wheels. The market for these is growing very fast and at some point they will command the attention of the large players in traditional truck-mounted concrete mixers.
