Penske Logistics Opens New Logistics Facility in Kentucky to Support Ford Motor Company
LOUISVILLE, Ky., July 16, 2007 -- Today, Penske Logistics announced the official grand opening of its new logistics facility in Louisville, Ky. The site was developed by First Industrial using Penske specifications to handle parts for all of Ford Motor Company's North American manufacturing plants.
"We worked as a team to develop a facility that is customized to meet Ford's logistics needs and one that helps drive greater efficiencies in its supply chain," said Bill Scroggie, Vice President - Operations, Penske Logistics.
This expansive 118,000-square-foot facility is centrally located, along a major rail line and near interstates 65 and 265. The 140-door warehouse and cross-docking site has the capacity to simultaneously unload up to a half- dozen 86-foot boxcars enabling highly efficient truck-to-rail or rail-to-truck shipments. The facility handles more than 800 shipments daily to Ford's manufacturing sites across North America.
The new Penske facility is located at 3200 Pond Station Road and replaces a smaller Penske facility at 2203 Walrich Drive. The new facility employs approximately 65 people.
"We are very pleased to continue to invest in and be a part of the Louisville community as an employer," added Scroggie. "We have already created more than 15 new jobs and we will continue expanding our staff as demand requires."
