Mark Your Calendar! Smithsonian Magazine and Hyundai Motor America Present Third Annual Museum Day
Free Entry to Hundreds of Museums Nationwide on September 29, 2007
WASHINGTON, July 13 -- Declaring September 29, 2007 "Museum Day", Smithsonian magazine is proud to announce Hyundai Motor America as the presenting sponsor, with additional support from CITGO Petroleum Corporation and, for the third consecutive year, TIAA-CREF. A day when participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors, Smithsonian's Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free- admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, DC-based facilities.
Generating support from institutions and the public alike, National Museum Day 2006 signed up nearly 500 museums -- including 55 Smithsonian affiliates -- from 49 states. Museums can register to participate by logging onto www.smithsonian.com/museumday, and clicking on the "For Museums" section.
"Museum Day opens the doors for all Americans to enjoy the rich diversity of our country's culture and supports Smithsonian magazine's mission to showcase and share our country's vast cultural wealth," said Kerry Bianchi, Group Publisher, Smithsonian Publishing.
Museum Day's presenting sponsor, the automaker Hyundai Motor America, is pleased to be involved in this year's event. "Hyundai applauds the exceptional way Museum Day brings people together to celebrate America's culture," said Monique Morin Kumpis, Hyundai's manager, Experiential Marketing.
Attendees must present the Museum Day Admission Card to gain free entry to participating institutions. The Museum Day Admission Card is available in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine and a downloadable version is available on the Museum Day website at www.smithsonian.com/museumdaycard. The general public is welcome to participate by going to the Smithsonian.com website and downloading the Museum Day Admission Card. Listings and links to participating museums' and sponsors' sites can be found at www.smithsonian.com/museumday.
