USAC Ford Focus competition takes place at four venues this week, while a fifth event, originally slated at Sun Prairie, Wisc. Sunday, has been canceled.
Nic Faas leads the California Pavement Series to Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. Saturday. Tim Skoglund of Fresno, Calif. won last Saturday's 30-lap race for California Pavement and Utah Focuses at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. He led all but the first lap in his Western Speed & Fuel/Ranchos Auto Repair Gerhardt to beat Faas, Tom Dyer, who led the first lap, Daniel Adler and Beau DeBard. Defending National Ford Focus Champion Michael Faccinto of Hanford, Calif. won Tuesday's 30-lap race at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring in his Scelzi Motorsports K & N Engineering Beast. He led the final 26 laps after passing Faas on lap five. Fast qualifier Tom Dyer finished second ahead of Faas, Robby Josett and Beau DeBard.
Mario Clouser of Auburn, Ill. continues to lead the USAC/UMARA standings into races at Plymouth, IN Wednesday and Morris, Ill. Saturday. Clouser won Wednesday's 20-lapper at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, leading the final five of 12 laps in his Illinois Corn Marketing Board Beast to beat Mark Wachter, Yasuyoshi Yamamoto and Justin Plunkett. On Saturday, Clouser led all 20 laps at Grundy County to beat Bill Griffith, Brad Greenup, Wachter and Sara Hyslop. Wachter led the first seven laps on Wednesday.
Jeff Abold of Pennellville, N.Y. leads the Northeast Series to Wall Township Speedway in Belmar, N.J. Saturday after sweeping races at Williamson and Oswego, N.Y. Friday and Saturday in his A & P Automotive/Team Abold Racing Hawk. Abold led the final eight laps at Spencer Speedway in Williamson Friday to beat Jon Seaman, Ryan Osborne, P.J. Stergios and Rick Fedrizzi. He then led the last 22 laps at Oswego Speedway Saturday to beat Jesse State, Steven Intravaia, Stergios and Shane MacMillan. State led the first five laps at Williamson, Abold led the next nine and Seaman led the next eight before Abold returned to the point. On Saturday, Stergios paced the first 13 laps before yielding to the winner.
