RODRIGUEZ LEADS MIDGETS TO SANTA MARIA SATURDAY;
HISTORIC VICTORY FOR McQUEEN AT MADERA
Johnny Rodriguez of Elk Grove, Calif. sits atop the USAC Western Midget standings entering Saturday's program at Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway. He holds a 39-point lead over Scott Pierovich.
Matt Mitchell did not compete in this past Saturday's race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway but holds down the third spot in the latest standings, 74 back of his teammate Rodriguez.
Shannon McQueen of Bakersfield, Calif. became the first female driver to win a USAC Western Midget feature Saturday night at Madera Speedway. McQueen, recording the 29th USAC feature win by a female in club history, led all 30 laps in her Simpson/Earl's Stealth/Esslinger Ford to beat Michael Faccinto, Johnny Rodriguez, Dallas Melby and Mike Binswanger. Shannon is fourth in the new points going into Saturday's races at Santa Maria.
