NASCAR Driver Regan Smith Tests at Infineon Raceway

NASCAR Driver Smith Completes 

Racing School and Test at Infineon Raceway

                           

SONOMA, Calif. (June 13, 2007) - NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Regan
Smith completed a one-day racing school and partial-day test session at
Infineon Raceway on Tuesday in preparation for the Toyota/Save Mart 350
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series weekend, June 22-24.

 

It was Smith's first visit to the 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course, where
he will attempt to make his first race start later this month. Smith has
run a limited schedule this year in the No. 01 U.S. Army Chevrolet,
starting three Cup Series events.  He is also running full-time in the
Busch Series.

 

Smith, who shares his Cup ride with Mark Martin, completed a one-day
Advanced Racing Course with the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School where
he piloted an open-wheel Formula Russell car. Following the school,
Smith spent a few hours behind the wheel of a late-model stock car
supplied by ShiftIntoGear, Inc.  He was coached by road-course
specialist Chris Cook.

 

"It was important that I at least see the road course before coming out
here to race," said Smith, who is currently ranked fifth in Busch Series
points standings.  "It seems like I get a little better with each lap.
I look forward to coming out here next week."
