Douglas Motorsports Takes Two Podium Finishes

Douglas Motorsports Takes Two Podium Finishes

June 13, 2007 (El Cajon, CA) - Douglas Motorsports came to Chula Vista
looking to put the AMSOIL Kumho
Tires Sycuan Resort & Casino KC Hilites Ford F-150 back on the podium.
The brand new Chula Vista International Raceway at the Quarry was a
track that really suited Scott?s driving style and the agility of the
lightweight race truck.

PRO-4 Round 5
After qualifying fourth fastest on Friday, Scott Douglas found himself
on the pole for the start of Round 5, thanks to CORR officials who
inverted the top four positions from Friday?s qualifying session.

The Le Mans style start saw Scott Douglas and his AMSOIL Kumho Tire
Sycuan Resort & Casino KC Hilites Alloy Ford F-150 grab the lead with
Adrian Cenni in second, and Carl Renezeder third.

On lap five, Scott went wide in Turn 5, allowing Cenni to take the
lead. Suddenly the #7 Ford F-150 developed a tight condition in the
turns. This made the truck difficult to corner in the slower turns.
This condition allowed Renezeder to get under Scott in Turn 2 with
only a few laps to the finish. At the finish it was 1st-Renezeder,
2nd-Cenni, and Scott Douglas in third place.

Comments from Scott Douglas after the days festivities:
?The truck was really balanced and working really well. About halfway
through the run, as the track dried out, I was getting a lot bite out
of the rear and the truck developed a power push. This meant the entry
into the turn was good, but as soon as you pickup the power and it
transfers, the front wants to wash out. Basically I didn?t figure why
we were pushing quickly enough, and it allowed Adrian and Carl to get
by. It?s really strange; I?ve never had a tire work so well that once
the track tacked up and tire got hot, the Kumho Tires hooked up too
good. Now I know we will probably have a looser truck at the start for
tomorrow. It will come in perfect if we get the tires right. Overall
everything on the truck held up great. It was just a hard fought race.?

Overnight Chief Engineer Bill Smith, and the crew made the necessary
changes to the suspension set-up and Scott was fast qualifier for
Sunday?s festivities.

PRO-4 Baldwin Qualifier
For Sunday?s races, CORR officials inverted the top six qualifiers,
which put Scott back in row three. At the drop the green flag, the top
five trucks were in a tight battle. On lap three Scott was in fifth
place. As the front group headed into lap 4, Scott?s truck caught
fire. Quickly he stops the truck and immediately gets out. The CORR
safety crew arrived quickly and extinguished the flames.

Now the only question was could this truck be repaired in time for the
Baldwin Cup Qualifier?

Back in the pits Scott Douglas explains to bumpracer.com, what
happened during Round 6.
?The only thing we could figure out was that rock got up and knocked
the air filter loose and the somehow knocked off the fuel line to the
float bowl. Then the fuel fire came up. We were running really well
until the fire. It was a real freak thing. A rock must have gotten
wedged between the air cleaner and float bowl and just beat the line
like a hammer.?

From the grandstands, and then on the Jumbotron, the fans really saw
the size of the fire. Did you have any problems getting out of the
truck?

?It was the biggest fuel fire I?ve ever been in. I had to get out
quick. It was wild. Once I got out I reached back in the cockpit to
get the hand held extinguisher. Thank goodness for my Ringers
Drivers-X gloves. The fire gave me a little sun burn on my cheeks, but
the gloves allowed me to grab that fire extinguisher. I?ve never been
a fan of driving gloves, but even before the fire, I was really
impressed with the feel of the gloves on the steering wheel. Wearing
the DriversX gloves has been a great deal for me. Thanks to Ringers
for a great set of gloves and CORR for making the driving gloves
mandatory.?

After a quick inspection, Bill Smith and the crew decided that the
primary truck could be fixed in time for Round 6.

Immediately, the team replaced much of the engine?s wiring,
carburetor, and continued to inspect the truck for anything that need
repair. About 10 minutes before staging, the truck fired up and was
deemed race ready.

PRO-4 - Round 6
The green flag drops, and quickly moves into third place. In front of
the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Resort & Casino Ford F-150, the trucks
of Josh Baldwin and Carl Renezeder were in a side by side battle. Then
at the end of the second lap, Baldwin and Renezeder came together on
the front straightaway, as they quickly separated this gave Scott just
enough room to apply the ProPower horsepower to the Kumho Tires, and
squeeze between the two for the lead.

Then it began an epic battle between Scott and Renezeder. The lead
went back and forth as the two raced hard and clean.

With four laps to go, while in the lead, Scott?s right rear tire went
flat. A lap later, Renezeder made the pass for the lead stick for
good. Now the tire began to shred, tossing rubber high into the air.
On the final corner Travis Coyne got around for the second spot. The
final results were: 1st ? Carl Renezeder, 2nd ? Travis Coyne, and 3rd
? Scott Douglas.

Comments from Scott Douglas during his post race podium interview.
?This AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 was awesome, it ran
so great. The crew replaced all the engine wiring, changed the
carburetor, changed the air cleaner, and then the truck fired right
up. The last two laps we ran without a right rear tire and our
American Racing ATX wheels held together to get us to the podium. The
race we had with Carl was awesome, side by side, clean for the most
part, we put one heck of a show.?
