ARDC Midgets Return on Thursday, June 14; Stock Car Saturday Night Continues at SSP on June 16
Newberrytown, PA (June 12, 2007) - There will be two nights of racing this week with the wingless ARDC Midgets returning to SSP on Thursday night, June 14. Joining the Midgets will be the Legends Cars and the Great American School Bus race that night. Both DIRTcar Racing NorthEast and Susquehanna Speedway Park officials reached a mutual agreement today to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event for Big-Block Modifieds originally scheduled on June 14 at the Newberrytown, PA oval. Further details of a future date regarding Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event will be released in the coming weeks. There will also be complimentary School Bus rides around the track for fans of all ages at 6:10 p.m. to 6:40 p.m.
The next Saturday night event will be June 16 when Stock Car Saturday Night returns with a special Father's Appreciation Night featuring the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Four Cylinder Stock Cars and the Penn Mar Vintage Cars. This night at the races will be a great Father's Day gift for dad.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for both Thursday and Saturday nights will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
On both Thursday and Saturday, the pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
There will be a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
Last Saturday night found Scott Richwine picking up his second Late Model feature win of the season. Paul Morgan visited victory lane for the first time this season in the Street Stock division. Charlie Pensinger finally picked up an Xtreme Stock Car feature after a long drought. Butch Richcreek returned to victory lane in the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van race. Kevin Armstrong won the XSC Rookie Rumble feature.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York, off I-83 to exit 32 (Newberrytown exit), then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 towards Lewisberry to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. SSP Pit Notes
- Updated Information for "The Outback" Track at SSP - The Outback Track at SSP is still currently under construction for Quarter Midgets, karts and more. The days of operation will be Saturday during the daytime hours. As work continues, the first open practice date has been pushed back to a date to be announced based on the delivery of the clay. Competitive racing is set to begin after a few practice dates have been completed. The classes/types of cars or karts will be developed during the open practice sessions. Details will continue to be released as they become finalized.
- AAP Super DIRTcar Series Postponed - Both DIRTcar Racing NorthEast and Susquehanna Speedway Park officials reached a mutual agreement today to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event for Big-Block Modifieds scheduled on June 14 at the Newberrytown, PA oval. Speedway owners Todd and Rhonda Fisher recently reorganized the remainder of the 2007 racing events schedule at Susquehanna and a new date for the Advance Auto Parts SDS show is pending at this time.
"On the heels of Susquehanna's schedule being restructured recently, we've decided to put the event on hold until we can find a better suited date," said DIRTcar Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. "We're looking forward to working with Todd as he has supported DIRT 100% since day one and wants the Big-Blocks back at his track in the very near future." Further details regarding Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event will be released in the coming weeks.
The events on Thursday, June 14 will continue as scheduled with the ARDC Midgets, Legends Cars and the Great American School Bus Race. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:00 p.m.
- Postponed Event from May 27 - The rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 19. The racing classes include the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets and Legends Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg, Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 at any race during the next three weeks (until Saturday, June 16) or for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted.
- Xtreme Stock Car Points Fund Announced - SSP in pleased to announce a season-ending points fund for the Xtreme Stock Car division paying $300.00 to the champion. The top 10 positions will receive points fund monies. The point fund is sponsored jointly by Superior Homes (Lancaster, PA), Erb's Custom Performance (Wellsville, PA) and The Madison Recovery Homes (York, PA). These companies will also sponsor the 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature during the Miller's Racing Parts Fall Classic race on October 19 and 20 paying $1,000.00 to the winner.
