Berger Makes the 8th Differnt Winner at Valley of Speed - 06/09/07

Brian Berger Makes Lebanon’s 8th Different Winner

Saturday June 9, 2007
By: Rodney Rescott

West Lebanon, NY: Gorgeous weather brought the fans and drivers out to the
Valley of Speed in droves, this past Saturday Night, as Greylock Federal
Credit Union presented the night, along with the special PYX106 “Eye Rock
500” race to benefit blind and blind/deaf kids at Camp Abilities.

The Waste Management 30 lap Big Blocks Modifieds took to the High Banks with
Brian Berger’s PLT #60 at the point. And at the drop of the green, Berger
put his PMC out front and began to pull away from the field.

A few rows back, defending track champ Andy Bachetti began is charge to the
front in dramatic fashion, powering his way around the top side of the
speedway. Leading Bachetti through the field, current point leader J.R.
Heffner was dicing through the field, trying to get to Berger.

Further back, late arrival Kenny Tremont Jr., started at the back of the
field, and he began to charge through slower traffic.

At the halfway point, it was still Berger at the point. Closing in on the
#60 was Heffner’s #74, the #21J of Jeff Trombley, and the #4 Bachetti. Fast
forward to the end of the 30 event, the white flew with Berger diving into
turn 1 for the final lap. No one was going to be close enough to make a
charge, but as the field rounded turn 3, the #87 of Hector Stratton blew an
engine coming down the front stretch, and the caution flew.

That caution put Heffner right on the rear deck lid of Berger for a one lap
shootout. On the restart, Berger powered deep into turn one, hoping to
shake off the advances of Heffner. Down the back shoot they ran, but as
Berger rounded the 4th Turn, Heffner couldn’t get it done.

Brian Berger made it the eighth different winner at the Valley of Speed in
the Big Blocks for 2007. Following Berger was Heffner, Trombley, Bachetti,
and Eddie Marshall rounded out the top 5.

The Sportsman 20 lap feature was on the card next, with Neil Stratton’s #87
bringing the field to the green.

Stratton pulled away early, but the Want Ad Digest #2 of K.C. Goewey charged
into the 2nd place position by lap 4, and began to reel in Stratton. Goewey
patiently waited for the right moment once he got to the rear bumper of
Stratton, and that opportunity came on lap 12, as the #87 bobbled a bit.

The #2 bolted to the point, and never looked back. At the checkers, it was
K.C. Goewey crossing the line first, followed by the #87 of Stratton. Kyle
Hoffman finished 3rd, followed by the #95 of Carmen Carnibucci, and the #09
of Kevin Lynch finished a strong 5th.

The Pro Stocks raced through their 20 lap feature with Don Carlson driving
his #26 from the pole position at the start, to the checkers at the end.
Dogging Carlson for the last 6 laps was the #24 of Robbie Speed, who settled
for 2nd. Kevin Arnold powered his way to finish third, followed by the #8
of Jay Corbin, and the #322 of Jay Casey.

The Limited’s also were on the card with a 10 lap event scheduled. At the
drop of the green, the #112 of Joe Mennite jumped the start and forced his
way all the way up to almost 4th place, before making heavy contact with
several cars, causing two to flip over the inside berm in turn 1.

After a brief delay to clean up the track, the field got underway, with the
#25 of Chad Jeseo pulling out to the early lead. Starting last on the field
was the #17 of Nick Hilt, and he began hiss charge to the front. But Jeseo
had too much for anyone else to handle, as the #25 took the checkers.
Following Jeseo was the #98 of Justin Herron, the #17 of Hilt, the #57 of
Dave Colwell, and the #23 of Kevin Winters.

The PureStockers were out in full force once again with just over 40 cars on
tap. The winners this week were in PS# 1 – Bob Palmer’s #29P, PS# 2 – Jeff
Kreutziger’s #31P, and PS# 3 – was won by the #0 of Matt Humes.

The “Eye Rock 500”, a benefit race for Camp Abilities, was won by Marty
Kelly (blind driver), and co-pilot Mark Burke (sighted driver). This was
once again a huge success for the Camp Abilities, a camp for the blind,
blind/deaf, and legally blind children. As this event is one of their major
fund raisers, it seemed as if it was another fantastic showing both by the
competitors, and the support from the fans and all those that contributed to
such a worthy cause.

More details on the total contributions raised will be forth coming. Stay
tuned to our website www.LebanonValley.com for all the details.
