GANASSI RACING (MILWAUKEE) - TWO TOP-FIVE FINISHES FOR THE FUJIFILM AND TARGET INDYCARS

It wasn’t the picture perfect finish the Target Chip Ganassi Racing was looking for after 225 laps at the Milwaukee Mile, but two top-five finishes for the FujiFilm and Target Hondas was enough to stay in the hunt for the IndyCar Championship.

A third place result for Dan Wheldon, who led twice for a total of 37 laps in the green and white special paint schemed FujiFilm car keeps him in second spot in the driver standings with 218 points. Scott Dixon who finished on the heels of his Target teammate in fourth place, also remains close behind in the title hunt in third spot with 216 points.

Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti finished runner-up to his teammate and race-winner Tony Kanaan to take of the Championship lead with 221 points, just 3 points over the Target team.

While Wheldon posted the fastest lap of the race 164.582 mph (22.2017 sec) on lap 151, Dixon is the only IndyCar driver to have completed every lap this season to date.

The third and fourth place finish for the Target team was its’ best showing at the Milwaukee Mile since a win at the track by Juan Montoya in 2000.

The team’s next stop is this coming Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway for the Bombardier 550.

TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING QUOTEBOARD:

Scott Dixon: “We had a balance problem all race. We were OK in Turns 1 and 2, but I think we had a damper problem coming off of Turn 4, which made it very hard to pass. Still, we finished fourth, so I’m very happy. These were very valuable points for us.”

Dan Wheldon: “It was a calculated gamble not to take tires on the final stop. It is impossible to know, but it was a chance we decided to take. We were so close it would only be a guess to say we would have been better.”
