NHRA WINNERS CROWNED AT TOP GUN
FALLON, Nev. - Jim Cowen took his second win in as many
races in the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series this
weekend at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, Nev. The Dewy, Ariz., racer, and
defending event champion, qualified No. 1 then ran down Ed Sigmon in the
final of Comp Eliminator with an 8.623 second, 149.72 mph pass to
Sigmon's 9.050 at 147.95 mph.
Super Stock racer Tim Smith of Rocklin, Calif., took the win
running 10.281 seconds at 128.58 mph over No. 1 qualifier Steve Wann in
his '70 Barracuda while Ryan McClanahan won in Stock Eliminator.
McClanahan, a former NHRA O'Reilly Jr. Drag Racer, led Saturday's
qualifying, then worked his way through eliminations beating Dale Howard
of Las Vegas, with a 10.568 second run at 128.68 mph.
Dean Hall locked onto the Sunset Racecraft Top Sportsman win
in 8.168 seconds and a hole-shot over Jed Bourquin of Canyon Country,
Calif. Hall, of Guerneville, Calif., ran 173.54 mph to Bourquin's 165.90
mph run in 8.166 seconds.
The Hughes Performance Top Dragster trophy went to Will
Harrison who knocked out former national event winner Shawn Langdon with
a 7.653 second lap at 178.93 mph. Langdon followed with an 8.042 second,
160.93 mph pass.
Ontario, Calif., resident Robert Naber won in Super Comp
over Justine Jeffrey. Naber ran 9.408 at 160.20 mph.
Super Gas pilot Val Torres of Valinda, Calif., put his '63
Corvette in the winner's circle taking out John Ross and in Super Street
it was Gordon Boven beating Gary Hardee, who won last month in Fontana,
Calif. Boven, of Boise, Idaho, ran 11.282 seconds at 120.37 mph and
Torres clocked in at 10.296, 150.31 over Ross.
Greg Liskey won in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley
Davidson over Don Tanklage with a pass of 9.129 seconds at 143.72 mph.
Pacific Division racers head to Infineon Raceway for the
next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August 3-5.
