MINDY’S MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Brownsburg, Ind. - (May 30, 2007) Greetings everyone! I hope everyone’s
Memorial Day weekend was save and that everyone remembered to think about
those fellow Americans in our armed forces who make the day possible.
As usual, lots and lots of racing going on everywhere around the United
States on the holiday weekend…from sprint cars in California, midgets in
Indiana, NASCAR in Charlotte and Mansfield (Oh.). And how could I forget…the 91st
running of the Indianapolis 500!
Let’s see, where to start…how about the Cruz Pedregon-owned midget (Cruz, a
Ringers supporting driver), driven by Josh Wise, picking up a feature win at
Kokomo Speedway (Ind.) on Thursday; Kevin “Bulldog?? Swindell drove his No.
79 Kasey Kahne Racing Mopar power plant to victory at O’Reilly Raceway Park
at Indianapolis in the prestigious “Night Before the 500?? race. Swindell’s
crew wouldn’t have been able to tune the car safely without the protection of
Ringers’ Authentic and Impact mechanic’s gloves.
Heading to the West Coast, Ringers racer Jason Statler picked up his first
Golden State Challenge Series win in two years on Saturday night at the “
Salute to Walt Ross?? at the Napa County Fairground located in Calistoga, Calif.
Also, on Saturday, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visited Mansfield
Motorsports Park in Mansfield, Ohio, while the Busch Series and the Nextel Cup
Series were playing at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.
After a 35th place starting position, Brendan Gaughan and his No. 77 South
Point Racing team endured rain showers and red flags throughout the day in
Mansfield to bring their Chevrolet home to a ninth place finish. Nice charge
through the field, guys! The Green Light Racing teams of Chad McCumbee and
Tim Sauter brought their rides home to a 14th and 20th, respectively, at the
end of the 250 laps.
Saturday was just filled with racing! Ringers racer Todd Kluever, using
DriverX by Ringers, brought his Roush Racing Ford Fusion home 15th in the
Carquest Auto Parts 300, while Kurt Busch of Penske Racing was involved in an
accident in his No. 12 Penske Truck Rental Dodge on lap 148, relinquishing him to
a 41st place finish.
Things seemed to be looking up for Penske Racing after Busch’s finish on
Saturday night, as both drivers of the Ringers supporting team sat on the front
row for the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night. However, the night went sour for
both Newman and Busch at two different points throughout the 600 mile race.
Pole sitter Newman’s engine fell victim to a valve problem on lap 172, while
Busch wrecked on the backstretch on lap 298, parking his No. 2 Miller Lite
Dodge for the remainder of the night. Before the incident, Busch had led twice
for a total of 107 laps.
Earlier in the day was the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500 at the famed
Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Ind. Ringers Gloves had a special
tie to one of the team’s in the race.
Skip Faul, President of Polished Marketing Group (the company who handles
the Ringers Gloves/CP Road Show out on the NHRA tour), stepped back into open
wheel action for one of his former team’s, Playa Del Racing and driver Jacques
Lazier on race day.
Many people don’t know this about Skip, but he was the Indy 500 winning
chief mechanic for Arie Luyendyk and Treadway Racing for their win in 1997.
Well, on Sunday, Skip headed over the wall and served as right front tire changer
on Lazier’s car. During points of the race, Lazier ran in the top-10, but
unfortunately was involved in a late-race wreck, which resulted in a 27th
place finish. We are glad you had a safe race, Skip, and are back to us in one
piece this weekend for NHRA at Topeka’s Heartland Park Raceway!
