(May 29, 2007) – Standout Indy Pro Series driver Alex Lloyd led from start to finish to win the Freedom 100 Indy Pro Series event held last weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, extending his race winning streak to four straight races to start the 2007 season. He’s an odds-on favorite to continue his run to the checkered flag this weekend in the Saturday, June 2 Road Runner 100 at The Milwaukee Mile. Race time is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. CST, following Road Runner High Speed Online IndyCar Series Pole Qualifications. Lloyd is the first driver in Indy Pro Series history to start the season four-for-four, and now sits tied with Thiago Medeiros for the longest string of consecutive victories. Medeiros’ streak was broken at The Milwaukee Mile when he broke a wheel bearing while leading the 2004 Road Runner 100. It will be a quick learning curve for Lloyd, who will be making his Milwaukee Mile racing debut. The Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver missed the Milwaukee Indy Pro Series PS race in 2006 due to illness. While enjoying his victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lloyd was already thinking about The Milwaukee Mile and competing in the Road Runner 100. “We are going to enjoy this (victory) now and then we are going back to work hard for Milwaukee,” he said. With a late-race pass one year ago at America’s Legendary Oval, Tony Kanaan protégé Jaime Camara is poised to make it two Indy Pro Series event wins in a row at The Mile. Camara started back in 18th in the field in the Freedom 100 and drove hard to a third place finish last weekend. Past series champion Wade Cunningham, who led the first 98 laps of last year’s Road Runner 100 before giving way to Camara, had a frustrating day in Indianapolis. He was penalized for jumping the start, then had recurring tire trouble early in the race and finished a disappointing 23rd in the 24-car field. After dropping out, Cunningham said, “Whoever was behind me drove into my back tire. They completely shredded my right tire off. It ruined the tire and we would have been three laps down at that point. There’s not really a point to continue because you’re never going to get those laps back. We’ll just load the car into the trailer in one piece and make our way to Milwaukee.” Oconomowoc, Wis. native Bobby Wilson is glad to have Indianapolis behind him. His team was snake bitten by misfortune both in qualifying and in the Freedom 100. In practice prior to qualifying on Thursday, Wilson’s Brian Stewart Racing entry dropped a cylinder and qualified down on power, starting 23rd in the 24-car field. In the race, Wilson was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was caught in a minor incident on lap five. Three laps later, he pitted to replace the damaged nosecone on his race car. After repairs, the car’s engine failed to fire. Wilson returned to the race a number of laps down and soldiered on to a 22nd-place finish. Understandably, all Wilson would say after his frustrating performance was that he would be glad to come back and race at home. Heading into the Road Runner 100 at The Milwaukee Mile this Saturday, the point standings have Alex Lloyd out in front followed by Mike Potekhen, Chris Festa, Wilson and Robbie Pecorari. An expected field of 22 Indy Pro Series teams will compete in the single, busy day of on-track activity, with practice sessions beginning at 8am this Saturday, while alternating track time with the stars of the Indianapolis 500 in the IndyCar Series throughout the day. The green flag waves on the Road Runner 100 at 5:15 p.m. this Saturday, June 2.
