Theriault Returns To Battle; Readies South Boston
“With Top-10 Goal Complete; Top-Five Finish Next On The Agenda??
MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (May 29, 2007) - - NASCAR Busch East Series
Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Michelle Theriault has enjoyed a breather from
competition, but just as quickly as she’s settled now, it’s time to go back to
work with the ’07 NBES season continuing this weekend at South Boston
Speedway.
Theriault, aboard Jeff Spraker’s No. 37 GLOCK, Inc. Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
heads to the tough and demanding short track looking to capture her third
top-10 finish of the season in four starts.
Two weekends ago, Theriault collected a top-10 finish at Elko Speedway
before moving on to Rusty Wallace engineered Iowa Speedway where she notched a
less than spectacular 26th place performance. Looking back on Iowa, the only
full-time female NASCAR driver looks to bounce back from the disappointing run
and award her team with the performance they expect.
“Iowa was a wake up call,?? said Theriault. “We qualified for the race, but
our finish is definitely not what this team is capable of. The good thing is
that I learned a lot. I am surrounded by a great team and a great sponsor.
They know we’re going to have some flaws in our rookie season, but I personally
want to keep those to a minimal.??
Theriault showed her focus and determination by bowing out of an ARCA test
at Michigan International Speedway scheduled for Tuesday, May 29 and instead
grouping together her Spraker Racing Enterprises team and heading north this
past Friday to test at South Boston Speedway in preparation for the June 2
event.
“The test went well,?? the Connecticut native said. “We worked all day on
different setups trying to prepare us for the race. It’s crucial for us to run
well at South Boston and we’re taking every advantage we can to make that a
reality.??
Heading into the fourth NBES event of the season, Theriault sits seventh in
the championship points just 77 markers behind leader Joey Lagano. 16 points
keep the developmental driver from tacking the top-five.
She locks fourth in the NBES Rookie-of-the-Year standings just a mere six
credits from leader Rogelio Lopez. Even though that margin is slim, the former
United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) veteran knows that championship will come
down to the wire.
“The Rookie-of-the-Year is probably going to be harder than the championship
itself. Every position and point is going to count. If we can’t take the
championship, we’re definitely going after Rookie-of-the-Year for sure.??
Her goal for this weekend? Simple.
“We want to return to top-10 status. A good run on Saturday night will not
only help us on paper, but has the potential to propel us in the standings and
that’s what we are after. Wegner Automotive gives us great motors, Jeff
Spraker and my team give me awesome race cars to drive and my sponsor GLOCK, Inc.
is a driver’s dream. We have all the ingredients to run well, we just need
to make it happen.??
