OSRAM Opto Semiconductors; LEDs Combine Stunning Design With Exceptional Safety for Opel GTC Concept Car
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--When it comes to automotive lighting, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, a leader in LED technology, is staying ahead of the curve by incorporating aesthetics, safety and technology into the lighting design of an Opel GTC concept car. The sports coupe features OSRAM’s OSTAR®, Golden DRAGON® and TOPLED ® high-power LEDS for both interior and exterior lighting.
“We were delighted to work with Opel on their GTC concept car for both interior and exterior lighting. Thanks to our ThinFilm technology, our LEDs are more powerful than ever, making them ideal for automotive lighting,” Ellen Sizemore, director, LED/IR marketing, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc., said. “OSRAM’s LED light sources can be used to create stunning design applications for automobiles, and provides exceptional safety, a win-win for both automobile manufacturers and consumers,” she added.
To add to the sleek and powerful look of the exterior of the car, designers used OSRAM’s Golden DRAGON LEDs in the parking and daylight running lights, and the company’s OSTAR Headlamp in the Opel GTC’s headlights and fog lights.
For the interior lighting, red TOPLEDs from OSRAM were featured in the dashboard design to accentuate and complement the red design accents on the steering wheel and seats of the sports coupe.
In addition, OSRAM LEDs are utilized in automobiles to increase road safety. These compact light sources have a quicker response time and are brighter than incandescent lamps, factors which contribute to the safety of passengers, particularly in instances when sudden braking is called for.
An increasing number of automobile designers are incorporating OSRAM’s small and impressively bright LEDs into eye-catching and memorable designs. In 2006, the company’s LEDs were used in a legendary Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina for a bold headlight design. The daytime running lights on the car resembled shark’s teeth, giving the vehicle a unique and striking appearance.
OSRAM offers LEDs for a wide range of applications including point light sources for large and small areas, and for light injection, encouraging designers to exploit their full creative and imaginative potential.
