INDYCAR (KANSAS) - PATRICK FINISHES 7TH...
Danica Patrick, driver of the #7 Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone, survived a pit-lane incident early in the Kansas Lottery Indy 300 Sunday and went on to post a seventh-place finish. The result was Patrick's best thus far in 2007 and was her second top-10 finish in four races for Andretti Green Racing.
Patrick's day nearly ended early during her first trip to the pit lane on lap 49. While attempting to leave her pit box after the completion of her stop, she made contact with the incoming car of teammate Tony Kanaan. The Motorola car sustained no damage and she returned to the track in 13th position. Patrick battled back into the top 10 over the course of the final 150 laps before settling in the seventh position. Dan Wheldon went on to record his second win of the 2007 season and was followed by Canadian Club driver Dario Franchitti. Helio Castroneves finished third, Scott Dixon was fourth and Tomas Scheckter rounded out the top five. Next up for the IndyCar Series is the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 27. Practice for "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" begins for all cars on May 8 with Pole Day set for May 12. The ABC/ESPN family of networks will provide coverage from Indianapolis all month and ABC will provide live broadcast coverage of the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 27 beginning at 12 p.m. (EDT). The race can also be heard live on XM Satellite Radio, XM channel 145, the exclusive home of the IndyCar Series.
Danica Patrick, #7 Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "Seventh is our best result of the year, but it is not what we want. We had an alright day on the track, but we obviously had a problem in the pits. Our car was tough to drive in the middle of the race, but we managed to get seventh. I don't know how far I was down after the problem in the pits, but I know we came back a little bit." (ON THE INCIDENT WITH TONY KANAAN IN THE PITS) "I might actually be the worst person to ask because when you're sitting in the car, you listen and you look for when to go. Kim (Green) is on the radio and 'Poppy' (crew chief Dave Popielarz), on my right front, he tells me when to go, too. I listened to them and they said 'go.' Obviously, TK was there. I feel bad because Tony had a really fast car, for sure."
