MOSCOW - April 27, 2007: Alex Nicholson, writing for Associated Press, is reporting that an idea orignally floated more than a century ago, a tunnel under the Bering Strait connecting Alaska and Russia may be built.
According to the story, backers are renewed their efforts for the $65 billion plan at a conference titled "Megaprojects of Russia's East," held last Tuesday in Moscow.
If built, the 68-mile tunnel would be the longest in the world. Ultimately, it would allow people to drive from the southern tip of South America to Scotland without ever having to transport their vehicles by boat.
