NHRA (GLENDORA) - D1 GRAND PRIX TO SHOWCASE AT EAST COAST NHRA XPLOD EVENT
NHRA and the D1GP professional drifting series have announced that they will combine forces at the historic Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
The sport compact spectacle of drag racing and drifting will be held during the NHRA Sport Compact Springnationals, May 4-6, in Englishtown, N.J. D1 Grand Prix qualifying will be held on Friday, May 4. D1 Grand Prix eliminations and NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series qualifying on Saturday, May 5, and NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series eliminations will be Sunday, May 6.
This will be the first time that D1GP has made the trip to the East Coast, and the historic Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will be playing host for this event. The drifting course will be set up in an overflow spectator parking lot to allow for the necessary room to hold a drifting competition.
“This exciting partnership with D1GP will allow the fans of sport compact drag racing to witness the thrill of two cars competing door-to-door,” said Josh Peterson, general manager of the NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series. “The success of staging the event in conjunction with our event in Las Vegas in 2006 allowed us to try this on the East Coast this year.”
In 2006, NHRA and D1GP successfully combined their events at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to put on a sport compact spectacle.
The NHRA is the premier sanctioning body for sport compact drag racing. It is presenting the 11-race NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series at nine tracks across the country from March through October.
The series is highlighted by its five championship classes (Pro RWD, Pro FWD, Modified, Hot Rod and Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor). In addition, the series promotes the grass-root racer with the Regional Sportsman Championships for those competing in Urbanracer.com Sport FWD, Sport RWD, BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock and Quick 16 classes.
Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., the NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 23 national events through its POWERade Drag Racing Series. The NHRA has 80,000 members and 140 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series’ provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels.
