NHRA (LAS VEGAS) - POWERADE DRAG RACING SERIES POST RACE NOTES:

TOP FUEL

* Brandon Bernstein, from Lake Forest, Calif., raced to the victory over Bob Vandergriff. Bernstein's Budweiser/Lucas Oil dragster covered the quarter-mile distance 4.521 at 330.07, to hold off Vandergriff's UPS dragster, which posted a 4.828 at 298.87. * It was Bernstein's first victory of the season and the 13th of his career. It is his first professional victory at The Strip at LVMS. * It was Vandergriff's eighth career final round appearance and first since Reading 2004. Vandergriff is still seeking his first career victory. * Tony Schumacher drove his U.S. Army dragster to the No. 1 qualifying position with a performance of 4.479 seconds at 329.83 mph. It was Schumacher's 38th No. 1 qualifying effort of his career, his fourth at this track and the third of the season. * Doug Kalitta failed to qualify for eliminations for the first time since the 2000 event at Phoenix, a span of 164 consecutive races. * Rod Fuller maintained his POWERade Series points lead, 41 in front of J.R. Todd. Fuller lost in the semifinals, while Todd was defeated in the second round. * Brandon Bernstein's Budweiser/Lucas Oil team, led by crew chief Tim Richards, won the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge award. Schumacher maintained the season lead.

FUNNY CAR

* Robert Hight, from Anaheim Hills, Calif., earned his first victory of the season and sixth of his career by defeating final round opponent Ron Capps. * It was Hight's first victory at The Strip at LVMS. * It was Capps' third straight final round appearance. He was going for his third win in a row. * Mike Ashley raced to his first career No. 1 qualifying position with a performance of 4.725 seconds at 334.32 mph in his Torco Racing Fuels Dodge Charger. The track record speed is the fastest for a Funny Car in NHRA history. Ashley failed to certify the speed as an NHRA national record by posting another speed within 1 percent of the 334.32 mph performance during the weekend. * John Force failed to qualify for eliminations for the first time in nearly 20 years, breaking his streak of 395 consecutive elimination starts. The last time Force failed to qualify his Castrol GTX High-Mileage Ford Mustang for the 16-car starting lineup was the 1987 NHRA Finals at Pomona, Calif. * Ron Capps defeated Kenny Bernstein in the second round of eliminations by .0032-second to claim the $1,000 Motel 6 Who Got the Light Award. * With the victory, Hight moved to second place in the Series point standings, 88 behind leader Capps. * Ashley's Torco Racing Fuels Dodge Charger team, led by crew chief Brian Corradi, won the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge award. Ron Capps holds the season lead.

PRO STOCK

* Greg Anderson, from Charlotte, N.C., powered his Summit Racing Pontiac GTO to his third victory of the season and 46th of his career by outrunning Jeg Coughlin in the final round. Anderson posted a 6.724 at 205.29 to hold off Coughlin's Slammers/Jegs.com Chevy Cobalt, which posted a 6.758 at 204.45. * It was Anderson's category-leading fifth victory at The Strip at LVMS, home track for his team owner Ken Black. * With the victory, Anderson extended his series lead to 129 over teammate Jason Line, the defending series champ. * Coughlin's Slammers/Jegs.com team, led by crew chief Roy Simmons, won the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge award. Dave Connolly, Coughlin's teammate, holds the season lead.

POWERADE FAN NATIONALS

* Cody Nielson, 16, of Pahrump, Nev., won the fifth round of the NHRA POWERade Fan Nationals. Nielson, a student at Pahrump Valley High School, defeated hundreds of area fans to claim the victory, driving realistic POWERade Funny Car simulators. He will have the opportunity to race for the ultimate title of 2007 POWERade Fan Nationals Series champion in November at the 43rd Annual Auto Club NHRA Finals at historic Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Southern California.
