NAFC - North American Ferrari Challenge Series Returns to Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. (April 12, 2007) - Race fans will have the rare opportunity to see contemporary Formula One racecars on the twisting Infineon Raceway road course when the North American Ferrari Challenge Series returns to the Sonoma Valley this weekend, April 13-15.
Nearly one dozen contemporary Formula One cars will take to the track as part of the new Corse Clienti Program, which allows owners of F1 cars to drive their machines on the track with full factory technical support. Cars driven by multi-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher will be part of the program.
In addition, the FXX Program will feature the recently-released FXX, one of only 29 in the world, on the challenging road course. The FXX is a race-track-only version of the Ferrari Enzo boasting 800 horsepower.
This is an opportunity for Ferrari fans and the media to see these unique machines roar to life around the Sonoma Valley road course. Spectators will enjoy an open paddock for an up-close look at these beautiful machines.
The weekend will be headlined by racing action in the F430 Challenge and the Ferrari Historic Challenge divisions, and marks the third time in four years the series has visited Infineon Raceway. In all, more than 100 machines will grace the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course, including vintage cars from Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa-Romeo (Ferrari Historic Challenge).
The Ferrari Challenge was created to allow Ferrari customers a chance to enjoy their cars in a structured and competitive environment, while racing against other Ferrari owners on some of the great racetracks in North America. Since 2000, the featured car has been the 360 Challenge - a special racing version has been built by the Ferrari factory just for the series.
The Ferrari Historic Challenge is a racing series for Ferraris, Maseratis and Scuderia Ferrari Alfa Romeos, held in conjunction with various F430 Challenge events.
Practice and qualifying will be held on Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with F430 Challenge and Historic Ferrari races on both Saturday and Sunday.
