Nissan North America Helps Raise Record Amount for Student and Teacher Scholarships

IRVING, Texas, April 5 -- The Irving Schools Foundation held its most successful fundraising event ever due in large part to the $10,000 donation by Nissan North America. The contribution made Nissan this year's Constellation (Title) Sponsor for the Foundation's 20th Anniversary of the Breakfast With The Stars. The Breakfast is the Foundation's primary fundraiser helping to raise scholarship money for deserving students and teachers in the Irving School District.

"The students really are the stars and are to be commended for their achievement," said Jeff Edwards who attended the event and is Vice President of Operations, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation, Nissan's finance division. "We are inspired by their drive and desire to succeed and are proud to sponsor such a worthy cause. Our vision of the future looks brighter thanks to these students."

More than 550 people attended this years Breakfast witnessing more than 80 scholarships being awarded to graduating seniors amounting to over $110,000. The fundraiser brought in more than $150,000 for the Foundation and new scholarship endowments.

"This 20th Anniversary was all about celebrating the legacy that has been established by past and present donors," said Elizabeth Phillip, Executive Director, Irving Schools Foundation. "Nissan has been a most generous contributor to our legacy of awarding scholarships to these accomplished students. Many of the scholarship recipients will be the first in their family to attend college. The Irving Schools Foundation, together with Nissan, is helping to create a cycle of success with these students."

The Irving Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for teachers and students to excel through grants and scholarship promoting educational excellence. Since its inception in 1985, the Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in teacher grants and student scholarships. Current foundation programs include grants-to-teachers, enrichment grants, scholarships, motivational scholarships, excellence awards, grants for professional growth for site administrators, and school site grants.
