DOT Announces New Auto Safety Requirement: Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

(for use with NHTSA announcement of Thursday, 4/5/07)

                   Top Expert Available for Interviews

WHO: William Kozyra, President and CEO, Continental Automotive
            Systems North America

WHY: Continental is a leading supplier of ESC, which the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will now require
on all new passenger cars and light trucks to help prevent
            rollover and other loss-of-control crashes.

The vast majority of rollovers occur in single-vehicle crashes
involving loss of control. Crash data studies by NHTSA and other
organizations worldwide show that ESC causes a dramatic
reduction in single-vehicle crashes by assisting drivers in
maintaining control in critical driving situations.

NHTSA studies show a reduction in single-vehicle crashes of
35-67 percent and a reduction in single-vehicle crashes with
rollover of more than 70 percent-the potential to save more than
            10,000 lives each year.

ESC may prove to be the most important safety advance of our
generation in that it helps prevent many crashes from occurring.

Continental was the first to introduce NHTSA, other safety
leaders and consumers to the benefits of ESC.
