Jean Jennings of AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE Wins 2007 Ken Purdy Award for Excellence in Journalism
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE, America’s leading automotive lifestyle publication (www.automobilemag.com) and part of PRIMEDIA’s Consumer Automotive Group, today announced the International Motor Press Association (IMPA) awarded its 2007 Ken Purdy Award to Jean Jennings for her June 2006 cover story entitled, “Veyron in the USA.” Jennings will receive the Ken Purdy Award from the International Motor Press Association during a ceremony at this year’s New York International Automobile Show on April 4, 2007.
“Veyron in the USA” chronicled Jennings’ exclusive interstate drive of the 1001 horsepower Bugatti Veyron supercar through Florida during Spring Break of 2006. A panel of automotive journalists selected Jennings’ feature article as their winner in February of this year. The Ken Purdy Award is the latest achievement for the article, which had previously been recognized at IMPA’s annual media competition, garnering three additional awards: Best in 2006 (overall), Best in Magazines and a Gold Medal in the Road Test category.
IMPA’s Purdy Award annually recognizes excellence in automotive writing and rewards an individual whose specific contribution most embodies the spirit and passion of Ken Purdy, considered one of America's greatest automotive writers and editors. Purdy was a prolific writer who also was an accomplished editor for publications such as Parade and True in the late 1940’s. His book, Kings of the Road, published in 1949, is still considered a landmark.
“AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE’s loyal audience has become very familiar with the unique style and insights which make Jean Jennings such a powerful force for our magazine,” said Steve Parr, president of PRIMEDIA’s Enthusiast Media division. “Jean is one of the magazine’s best assets and truly embodies the enthusiasm and journalistic integrity for which the Ken Purdy Award was named.”
