Krohn-Risi Ferrari Finished in Top Ten in GT2

Krohn-Risi Ferrari Finishes Top Ten
In Class at 12 Hours of Sebring

Despite the fact that the No. 61 Krohn-Risi Ferrari team of Tracy Krohn, Nic Jönsson and Colin Braun had a setback less than four hours into the 55th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring race, they managed to pull out a Top Ten finish in their first-ever American Le Mans Series race in the Ferrari 430GT.

Although it was not the finishing position the team had hoped to achieve, the race served its purpose to expose the strong and weak points of the new pairing of Krohn, Jönsson and Braun in the Risi Competizione-prepared Ferrari 430GT and give all the drivers seat time in the car.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., about an hour into his first stint as third rotation driver, Krohn got sideways in Turn 13 and was struck by a Porsche GT2 car, sending both cars to the pits for repairs. The damage to the No. 61 Ferrari took over an hour to repair, including a radiator change and resulted in a loss of approximately 30 laps.

The No. 61 Krohn-Risi Ferrari team made additional changes which the drivers all felt improved the drivability of the car for the remainder of the race. The new team finished ninth in the GT2 class and 24th overall, out of a field of 34 cars in the inaugural race of the 2007 ALMS season.

The sister No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430GR of Jaime Melo, Mika Salo and Johnny Mowlem won the GT2 class in a nail-biting race that had everyone out of the their seats when it went to the wire on the last lap.

The next ALMS race for the Krohn-Risi Ferrari team will be the Lone Star Grand Prix Race on April 20-21, 2007 in Houston, Texas, hometown for both Tracy Krohn and Risi Competizione.

QUOTES:

Nic Jönsson, Driver Krohn-Risi Ferrari 430GT:
“Ninth place was not too bad for our first race that Tracy, Colin and I have driving this car. It’s pretty much a newly assembled team who has done a great job all weekend. The guys have been thrashing because we’ve had some issues both in practice and during the race. They’ve been working really, really hard and together as a team. I’m very pleased with the Risi Competizione/Krohn Racing team. They’ve shown again that they are a winning team. I’m very pleased to be a part of it. “When we get a few more races under our laps, I think we can be very, very competitive with the Krohn car as well. It’s very encouraging to be a part of a winning team and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.??

Tracy Krohn, Owner of Krohn Racing/Driver of Krohn-Risi Ferrari 430GT:
“It’s great to finish in the Top 10 in any race unless there is 10 and you finish 10th (joking). The idea is to finish and anytime you finish a race like this, it’s a positive. It’s got to be a positive for this car. Working with Nic and Colin has been a real pleasure. The team has been a real pleasure. Risi has done a great job and I’m really proud of them. I’m looking forward to Houston.??

Colin Braun, Driver Krohn-Risi Ferrari 430GT:
“I had a great time driving the Ferrari. I love driving race cars and driving for teams like Krohn Racing and Risi make it that much more fun. We started off a little rough in a few spots with the car. We worked on it quite a bit and it got to be really competitive at the end. I’m real proud of the job Mark (Schomann – Race Engineer), Tracy and Nic all did. It was a great effort.??

Jeff Hazell, Krohn Racing Team Manager:
“It was a good race for the team in the fact that Tracy got more time in the car than we originally planned when we changed the driver rotation after the setback. This will be very useful to the team going forward. After the first two complete races, we expect everything will be really well put together for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.??
