Sam’s Town 300 Notes and Quotes
Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 10, 2007
GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 3M Ford Fusion (finished 38th) – “Right-rear tire. It’s been a long time since we’ve had conditions like this. Charlotte was pretty bad, but you could still drive ’em. Here, you can’t even drive ’em. I don’t have any idea what tomorrow’s going to like. Just must’ve run over something. I heard the right-rear tire go flat right when I got to the corner entry, and that’s unfortunate.” WAS ENTRY TO PIT ROAD AN ISSUE TODAY? “Oh, yeah. Anybody could see it’s going to be a problem, even when they re-did the thing. It’s a huge transition getting to pit road, but what can you do?”
DAVID GILLILAND – No. 25 freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion (finished 32nd) – “It’s got an oil leak. I don’t know what it is, but it’s smoking there. That’s just one of those deals.” HOW WERE THE RACING CONDITIONS TODAY? “The track is slick, super slick. With the hard tires and the heat, it’s playing havoc on a lot of people. It’s just real slick, you just have to be real careful.”
CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Dish Network Ford Fusion (finished 6th) – “It’s awesome. It was a great day. I’m just really happy about the way we kept fighting all day, that was pretty cool. That’s a championship day for us. It wasn’t spectacular at all. The car, we struggled but we still finished well.” ANY CONCERNS? “The tires were very difficult. Goodyear’s doing they’re best, I guess, to come out here and be safe, but that’s kind of a mess we’ve got here with the tires. We’ll just fight through it.”
MARCUS AMBROSE – No. 59 Kingsford/Bush’s Baked Beans Ford Fusion (finished 10th) – “It was a big day. We were good at the start, just tickled it a little bit, and then put a set tires on it that weren’t matched right, or whatever, and we fought, we were worse the whole way around for about 10 laps before I spun out. I just couldn’t hold on. We came in and got ourselves in a hole, got ourselves back on the lead lap, and just fought hard to come home good. I’m just really proud of my guys, really proud of Kingsford Charcoal for putting a rookie in their car. I’ve got just got to thank Ford Racing and everyone who helped me get here in the first place, my friends and family, who have committed so much. It’s not just me out here who’s sacrificed, it’s my whole family, so I’ve got to thank them. It’s days like this that make it worthwhile.” YOU HAVEN’T MISSED A LAP ALL YEAR… “And that’s awesome. We’re finishing races, and that’s all we wanted to do was finish off the first five races. We’ve got ourselves two top-10s and we’re in the top 10 in points. I can’t believe it.” HOW IMPORTANT IS MOMENTUM FOR YOU RIGHT NOW? “That’s what we wanted from the first five races was to build some sort of platform, try to be safe in points, so the sponsor’s relaxed and I also have a job, and we can move forward from that. That was my only goal to start the season was to finish the first five and try to get in the top 35 in points. We’re well on our way to doing that. Who knows where it’s going to stop because we’re finishing race, we can develop now and improve. I’m learning. The more laps I do, the more I learn. I just hope the trend continues.”
JON WOOD – No. 47 Clorox/American Red Cross Ford Fusion (finished 11th) – “I knew after the test that this race – the Cup race and this race, in particular – were going to be battles of attrition. So, every time I thought about doing something that you would deem as stupid or something a little on the risky side, in the back of my mind I was thinking, ‘You did this same stuff the last two years, and at the end of the year you regretted it,’ because these are races that you’re in, you have a problem and then you look back and say, ‘Look at how many points I lost by doing that.’ So, I’m just trying to finish these races, every one of them. I want to have the best car we can have, I want to finish them in the best position we can finish them and not wreck.”
YOUR TEAMMATE, MARCOS AMBROSE, HAD ANOTHER STRONG FINISH, TOO. “He’s very experienced, not so much in oval racing, but road racing, and it’s made both of us better. If you look at where both of us finished each week – I had trouble at California, mechanical problem – I finished 15th and he finished 16th at Daytona, I finished 10th and he finished eighth at Mexico, and then 10th and 11th today. When the cars are finishing that close together that means the drivers are equal, the cars are equal and everybody’s doing their job.”
