Federal-Mogul’s Champion® Spark Plugs Help Power Kevin Harvick to Daytona 500 Win
SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--In a wild and spectacular finish, Kevin Harvick’s #29 Chevrolet Monte Carlo – powered with help from Federal-Mogul’s Champion spark plugs – charged from 29th position with just 22 laps to go and passed race leader Mark Martin in the final seconds to win the Daytona 500 at Daytona (Florida) International Speedway. Jeff Burton, Harvick’s teammate at Richard Childress Racing, finished third in the #31 Chevy Monte Carlo, also powered by Champion plugs.
“Kevin Harvick and the Richard Childress Racing team posted a dominant weekend on NASCAR’s most prestigious track, and Federal-Mogul’s Champion spark plug team is pleased to have helped get it done,” said Tim Nelson, director of motorsports, Federal-Mogul. “The performance-driven engineering approach for every Champion spark plug application means exceptional power and durability for all vehicles on the track and on the road for virtually all passenger vehicles worldwide.”
The “Performance Driven” Champion spark plug, manufactured and marketed by Federal-Mogul, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2007. For a century Federal-Mogul’s Champion brand has been a global leader in spark plug technology for every type of combustion engine. In addition to millions of vehicles worldwide, Champion plugs have powered five of the past six NASCAR Cup champions and nearly 400 Formula One victories, demonstrating that Champion spark plugs are performance proven in the most demanding operating environments.
The “working end” of each Champion spark plug features a variety of exclusive technologies that help deliver superior performance in all operating conditions. New Champion Iridium spark plugs feature a laser-locked iridium center electrode and platinum V-trimmed ground electrode to ensure the longest life and greatest resistance to corrosion. Champion Iridium plugs also use the brand’s proprietary Heat-Active™ alloy, which more quickly reaches and then maintains the appropriate operating temperature under varying engine loads.
Champion Double Platinum Power spark plugs utilize platinum on both the center and ground electrodes for longer life and minimal wear. These plugs also incorporate fine-wire and V-trimmed electrode designs to create a much sharper, more focused spark and also feature the Champion’s Heat-Active alloy for optimal thermal management.
