2007 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour Kicks Off at South Georgia Motorsports Park
CECIL, Ga. (Feb. 23, 2007) - While many parts of the country are still covered in snow, the asphalt of the South Georgia Motorsports Park, in Cecil, Ga., is covered in cones, awaiting the start of the 2007 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National season.
More than 240 Soloists from across the nation are making their way to the South Georgia Motorsports Park, for the Solo National Tour's inaugural visit to the facility. Competitors will have a real treat in store for them as the weekend is predicted to be blessed with sunny skies and warm temperatures.
Naturally a great deal of attention will be paid to defending Solo National Champions registered for the first event of the season. Only two of the 72 Solo National Champions crowned last September in Topeka, Kan., will make the trip to Georgia; Steve Hoelscher, of St. Augustine, Fla., will defend his crown in the D Prepared class and John Thomas, of Tampa, Fla., will attempt the same in F Prepared.
Two-time Solo National runner-up Ian Stewart, of Orlando, Fla., will have to knock off a lot of cars in the large Super Stock class if he hopes to win the season-opener like he did last year.
Also a 2006 Solo National runner-up, Andy Hollis, of Austin, Texas, won three rounds in the Street Touring Sports 2 class last year and will seek to start his season with a win in Georgia.
The Super Stock Ladies class will see a rematch of last year's season-opener when Jacqueline Lawson, of Venice, Fla., and Joan Clark, of Miami, Fla., return to the Solo National Tour. The pair finished one-two last year, with Clark edging Lawson. Clark would also go on to win the SSL class at the final round of 2006 in Packwood, Wash.
Win or lose, all of the Soloists competing at the Dixie National Tour will be eligible to win a new Pace American trailer. The first round of the Solo National Tour is also the first chance to enter the Pace Hot Pursuit Challenge. Over the course of the weekend, the Soloist who has the least variance between their fastest and slowest run on either of the courses will win an entry into the year-end drawing for a new Pace Pursuit trailer.
Competitors have spent Friday testing and tuning and will hit the course for their first heats Saturday at 9:15 a.m. Sunday's heats will commence at 8:00 a.m., with an awards presentation scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
