Busch Series Driver Alex Garcia To Attend Southwest
Florida’s First Annual Mini Grand Prix NASCAR Race
CAPE CORAL, Florida (Tuesday, February 20, 2007) - - Coming off a successful
test in preparation for his NASCAR Busch Series debut next month in Mexico,
rookie driver Alex Garcia will head south this weekend to participate in the
first annual Southwest Florida Mini Grand Prix NASCAR race at Sunsplash
Family Water Park in Cape Coral, Florida.
Garcia will be a guest of honor at the event, getting behind the wheel of
the Screenprint Plus-Steve Westphal’s Auto Showcase official pace car. Garcia,
29, will also be on hand during the event to meet participants and attendees,
sign autographs and take pictures.
“I’m very excited about heading to Florida this weekend to participate in
an event that not only gives back to the community, but to the leaders of the
future,?? said Garcia. “I’m honored that the Cape Coral Youth Crime
Intervention Program asked me to be a part of their function, it’s going to be a
great time.??
The fundraiser, organized by the Cape Coral Youth Crime Intervention
Program, is a unique event developed by Small Cars America. Southwest Florida
businesses, organizations, and families have the opportunity to purchase miniature
$3,500 racecars, equipped with a Briggs and Stratton engine. The cars, which
max out at 20 MPH, are then custom-painted and detailed to advertise the
purchaser’s business or organization.
The all-day race event begins this Saturday at 9:00 AM. Cars will race in
four heats around a 1/3 mile track in the Sunsplash parking lot. Food and
vendors will be on-site throughout the day. Admission to the event is $2.00 per
adult. All proceeds of the event will go directly towards expansion programs
for the Cape Coral Youth Crime Intervention Program.
"We are very excited about the opportunity this special event will bring to
Cape Coral. This is our first annual mini grand prix race that is a
fundraiser for the Cape Coral Youth Crime Intervention Program. We are honored to
host Mr. Garcia and know his participation will add additional excitement to our
event. We appreciate him taking time out of his busy race schedule to help us
help the youth of Cape Coral," stated Eileyn Sobeck-Bador, executive
director for the Cape Coral Youth Crime Intervention Program.
The event takes place just one week before Transnet Racing’s 2007 NASCAR
Busch Series debut at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico on
March 4. Originally from Venezuela, Garcia, who founded Transnet Racing with
his father Juan in 2002, will be piloting the No. 98 Dixien-OmniSource
Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for at least 12 NASCAR Busch Series races in 2007. The team
plans to run a full season schedule in 2008.
