Westwood One - Traffic Blogs With Local Knowledge
New York City, NY February 13, 2007 - Metro Networks, a Westwood One company, announced today the launch of online traffic reporter blogs and video traffic reporting services for media affiliates, leveraging a network of more than 1,800 traffic reporters in the U.S.. The new services also feature visitor feedback forums, which provide for greater interactivity and communication among commuters and traffic reporters.
"We are thrilled to bring the expertise and knowledge of the largest network of on-air traffic reporters into our digital portfolio," said Gary Krantz Chief Digital Media Officer of Westwood One. "The personality of our local network of traffic reporters can now enhance our digital traffic offerings of traffic data feeds, real-time maps, driving directions, camera, video and personal traffic alerting services."
Westwood One's Metro Networks is the largest provider of on-air traffic reports and digital traffic services to the media industry, providing on-air, online and mobile traffic reporting services to more than 2,500 radio, TV and newspaper media outlets.
The new blog and video reporting services were recently launched in Boston, on Hearst-Argyle's WCVB-TV Channel 5, and are available on www.TheBostonChannel.com. Hosted by SmartRoute Systems' Boston Operations General Manager Jeff Larson and Director of Operations Cindy Campbell, the blog On The Road With Cindy and Jeff features commentary and observations about local traffic conditions, while the video service, Tomorrow's Traffic Today, provides a preview of what to expect during tomorrow's commute with updates on events, expected traffic patterns and scheduled construction information integrated with graphics.
"With longer commutes and more traffic problems in the Boston area, consumers are looking to get updates through a variety of mediums," said Bill Fine, President and GM of WCVB-TV. "The blogs and video content for the web from Westwood One enable us to provide information to users how they want it and when they want it. Having Jeff and Cindy interact with TheBostonChannel.com users is a great benefit. We look forward to expanding their presence on the site."
