Change to 'UPG' Highlights Full Service Offerings, Global Business

OAK BROOK, Ill., Feb. 13 -- United Plastics Group, Inc., a full service contract manufacturer in the medical, consumer, electronics and automotive market segments, today announced a name change to UPG.

"The name change reflects our success over the past few years at broadening our services and global reach," says Richard Harris, CEO. "We have evolved from molding components to providing a full range of product development and manufacturing solutions. UPG services include application design, tooling engineering, processing, manufacturing, program management and supply chain management for projects that range from injection-molded plastic components to semi-finished subassemblies to multifaceted fully-finished final products.

The name change announcement is concurrent with the official grand opening of the company's third Mexican manufacturing location in the north-western Baja Mexico region. The new 62,000 square foot facility in Tijuana, a white room environment throughout, includes a Class 100,000 clean room, and serves UPG's growing roster of customers, particularly those who require the stringent quality control and manufacturing specifications typically associated with the medical, consumer and electronics industries.

UPG has manufactured components and assemblies for a broad spectrum of products for the medical, automotive, electronics and consumer segments. For medical applications, products include minimally-invasive surgical devices, respiratory and catheter devices, diagnostic instruments and equipment and patient monitoring systems. Medical manufacturing facilities, which are ISO 9001/13485 and FDA certified, offer Class 100,000 clean room assembly, packaging and sterilization, as well as electronic systems assembly and testing. In the automotive arena, UPG focuses on engineering and technology- driven solutions, providing product design and development and the capability of molding up to 980 tons for applications such as interior and exterior injection-molded plastic components and assemblies for OEMs and their suppliers. For the consumer and electronics industries, UPG delivers global supply chain and program management through tight integration with a manufacturing infrastructure based primarily in Mexico and China. UPG is well equipped for multi-regional production, with expertise in launching more than 100 bill-of-material applications across continents.
