TONY PEDREGON AND THE Q POWER RACE TEAM OPEN 2007 SEASON BY REACHING THE
SECOND ROUND IN POMONA
Quickest Funny Car Field in NHRA History
2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series
Round 1 of 23
NHRA Winternationals, Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.)
Race Date: February 8-11, 2007
POMONA, Calif. (February 12, 2007) - In the quickest Funny Car field in NHRA
history, Tony Pedregon and his Q Power Nitro Funny Car Team made it to the
second round after qualifying tenth (4.749 at 317.42 mph) at the NHRA
Winternationals, held at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.), the first
stop on a 23-race 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule.
In the first round Tony took a big lead off the line and never looked back
easily beating Scott Kalitta with a 4.771 at 319.82. In the second round,
Tony faced Robert Hight. This was a good race with Tony getting off the
line first, but eventually Hight's 4.718 at 319.29 beat Tony's 4.825 at
290.07.
"This was a pretty good start to the 2007 race season. I am proud of the Q
team as we made solid runs to qualify in what turned to be the quickest
field in NHRA history," stated Pedregon, the 2003 NHRA Funny Car Champion.
"I feel very good about our chances to compete for the championship this
year. We have made progress each year and moved up the ladder in points
with our eye on the championship. Dickie (Crew Chief Dickie Venables) has a
solid handle on this Q Power race car and I am looking forward to Phoenix."
In 2006, Tony Pedregon and the Q Power Race Team finished 5th in points with
three wins.
