Vehicle Owners Group Representatives Available to Comment on Fuel Economy Standards Announcement

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2007; With the Bush Administration today releasing draft legislation seeking to reform vehicle fuel economy mandates, representatives of the SUV Owners of America (SUVOA) are available to comment on what the proposal could mean to American motorists.

The draft legislation to raise Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for passenger cars could lead to higher vehicle prices that may not pay off through savings at the gas pump. SUVOA's leaders have worked at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -- the federal agency that administers CAFE standards -- and thus have extensive experience with CAFE issues. They have made numerous appearances in the media commenting on relevant stories, and can provide unique insight on the unintended safety, fuel consumption and environmental consequences that can result from unreasonable CAFE increases.

SUVOA is a non-profit consumer organization dedicated to supporting the rights and serving the interests of SUV, pickup and van owners. Founded in 1999, SUVOA is the voice of and advocate for light truck owners from unfounded attacks by special interest groups and unwarranted government regulation. SUVOA is equally dedicated to serving the public with information about SUV ownership, including product reviews and recommendations for maximizing utility, performance and enjoyment from SUVs.
