GEICO Brings Junior Achievement Programs to Burdell-Hunt Magnet School for a Third Year
MACON, Ga., Jan. 30, 2007 -- This week, 24 GEICO associates are taking on teaching assignments at Burdell-Hunt Magnet School to assist the Junior Achievement of Georgia Whole School Program. They will teach classes focused on the importance of business, economics and free enterprise to almost 400 students, kindergarten through fifth grade.
Each grade level will focus on age-appropriate studies: younger students will learn about workers and consumers, and older students will learn how to start a business in the United States' free-enterprise system. GEICO associates will also share their own experiences with the students to bring home the idea that everyone has a role to play in a successful economy.
"We are extremely excited to partner with GEICO again this year to teach the economics of life to the students at Burdell-Hunt," said Michelle Nelson- Hawkins, executive director of JA of Georgia-West Central District. "The commitment of the GEICO associates is a testament to their belief in making a difference in the lives of these students."
John Izzo, regional vice president of GEICO's Macon office, added, "At GEICO, one of our operating principles is to invest for total return. We look at our involvement in Junior Achievement as a long term investment in our youth. We are happy to provide the students with our time and resources to help them develop integrity, leadership and a great work ethic which pays off for them as well as society later on."
