Northeast Region of Mazda North American Operations and Its Dealers Raise Vital Funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF):
Over $44,000.00 Raised With Two More Months Left in Campaign MEDIA ADVISORY WHAT: The Northeast Region of Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) and the Northeast Region Mazda Dealers have raised more than $44,000.00 for JDRF. Seventy-five percent of the region's dealer body volunteered to give $1 to JDRF for every car they sell between July 1, 2006, and March 31, 2007. The MNAO Northeast Region has pledged to match those funds, up to $25,000. To date, $44,520.00 has been raised and a check will be presented to JDRF. JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1 billion to diabetes research, including more than $122 million in FY2006. In FY2006, the Foundation funded 500 centers, grants and fellowships in 20 countries.
