Automotive Engineering International Writer Wins WAPA Golden Quill Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 29, 2007 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dan Carney, a writer for Automotive Engineering International (AEI) magazine, is the recipient of the Washington Automotive Press Association (WAPA) 2007 Golden Quill Award.

Carney's winning entry in the September 2006 issue of AEI carried the headline, "The Gas Is Greener," and focused on biofuels' promise to assist in reducing petroleum consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as discussed the need for production and infrastructure investment to realize its potential.

"Obviously this story has real current significance, but Dan's coverage of the topic in going beyond biofuels' potential and discussing its needs and barriers is what makes this submission a winner in journalism circles and for readers," Kevin Jost, editor of Automotive Engineering International, said. The Washington Automotive Press Association's Golden Quill Award was presented during the organization's annual banquet held last week at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The award, which now is accompanied by $500 cash prize, is given for the best auto journalism piece produced by an author working within the Washington/Baltimore area. Both Justin Hyde of "The Detroit Free Press" and Mary Anne Shreve from AutoExec were honored by WAPA as well. The outlets for the winning piece and those recognized can be in different areas of the country, but the submissions must be written by a Washington-area correspondent.
