Krohn Racing 6-Hour Report from Daytona
KROHN RACING ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA 2007 Notes and Quotes at the 6-Hour: The No 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley of owner/driver Tracy Krohn, Nic Jönsson and Boris Said started from the 26th position of 70 cars and is currently eighth overall. The first six hours of the twice-around-the-clock enduro has gone flawlessly so far for them. However, the No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley of Max Papis, Colin Braun and JJ Lehto experienced problems on lap 99 at approximately 4:30 p.m. while in fifth place. Shortly after Colin Braun started his second stint in the car, he radioed in to complain of a vibration and misfire. The team pitted to the garage on Lap 106, at approximately 4:55 p.m. to change the right side coil. They were in the pits for seven laps, returning to the track for only 11 laps before pitting again at 5:18 p.m. on a quick stop to replace the data card, along with fuel and tires. The team continued to chase the issues with another pit stop at 5:36 p.m. to change the spark plug wires; fuel and driver change to JJ Lehto. Ultimately the No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley went to the garage at 5:55 p.m. for 45 minutes to make a major overhaul including the ECU, electronic harness, coil, injectors, spark plus and wires. They pitted while in 22nd place and rejoined the field at 6:40 p.m. in the 53rd position. NIC JONSSON, driver of the No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “The car is great. I think the work we did on race set-up during the Test Days is starting to pay off. We worked on speed for the first test session and from there on ran on full tanks full stints. We did seven full runs wile we were here for the Test Days. That’s all paying off now. The car is staying very consistent. We are one of the top three fastest cars out there the whole stint, gaining ground every time. Everything is looking good. We just have to keep clicking it off, stay out of trouble and I think it will be an exciting morning and afternoon tomorrow.�?? MAX PAPIS, driver of the No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “We started (the race) really well. We were in the places we wanted, running in the Top 8 and just a few seconds behind the leader. I heard on the radio we were having some engine problems, more like an electronic problem related to the engine. The guys changed everything and it looks like it’s running alright at the moment. Of course, we lost a lot of very precious track time. It’s still very early in the race but being about 20 laps down is something you carry around like a heavy backpack.�?? JEFF HAZELL, Krohn Racing Team Manager: “The 76 car is running extremely well and very well placed at the moment. We’re quite comfortable with that. With the 75 car, we had to change a lot of electrical system works around the engine and now the car is running perfectly but we lost about an hour doing that. Now JJ is out there turning very fast laps…the fastest car on the track at the moment.
