Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines; 2007 SCCA Club Racing National
Season Underway
TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 26, 2007) - The start of a new year means the start
of a new SCCA Club Racing National season, and with a new Division and
five new National classes, 2007 will be a year to remember. The season
is already well underway, with Southeast and Southern Pacific National
races already in the books and a number of Divisions gearing up for
their first events of the year.
The Southeast Division wasted no time kicking off the 2007 Club Racing
National Season, holding its first race January 6 - 7 at Sebring
International Raceway, in Sebring, Fla. Racers didn't have very far to
go as the next Southeast Club National event was also in sunny Florida
the following weekend, January 13 - 14 at Homestead-Miami Speedway,
closing out the traditional Winter Nationals.
Club racers taking part might have noticed some new cars and new faces;
classes making their Club Racing National Debut in 2007 include Super
Touring (ST), B Prepared (BP), D Prepared (DP), Formula SCCA (FSCCA) and
F1000 (FB).
Also racing on the January 13-14 was the Southern Pacific division, who
began its season with a double National at Phoenix International Raceway
in Avondale, Ariz. Southern Pacific National racers will hit the track
again this weekend, January 27-28, at California Speedway, in Fontana,
Calif.
The Southern Pacific crew aren't the only ones starting their season
with a double National, the Southwest division's National opener at MSR
Houston, in Angleton,Texas, February 16-18, will be a doubleheader, as
will Norpac's first National race of 2007 at Thunderhill Park, in
Willows, Calif., March 16 - 18.
The Midwest Division will also begin its season in March, running in
Memphis, Tenn., at Memphis Motorsports Park, March 11.
The Rocky Mountain, Northeast, and Great Lakes divisions are all hoping
to be thawed in time for their National openers in April. Rocky Mountain
and Northeast National seasons will both commence the weekend of April
14-15 at Pueblo
Motorsports Park (Pueblo, Colo.) and Summit Point (Charlestown, W.V.),
respectively, while the newly-formed Great Lakes division will hold off
until April 28 - 29 for its first National race at Gingerman Raceway, in
South Haven, Mich.
The latest Club National season opener will occur in the blustery
Central Division, May 5 - 6 at Blackhawk Farms, in Beloit, Ill.
