TeleflexGFI beats engine emission standards years ahead of schedule

KITCHENER, Ontario--TeleflexGFI, a business unit of Teleflex Power Systems, announces that two of its engine systems for variable speed applications are certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) at levels below its 2010 Large Spark Ignited emission standards, a full three years ahead of schedule. The TeleflexGFI systems also exceed the levels of the current applicable emission standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

TeleflexGFI, as General Motors manufacturer of record, equips GMs 2.4 liter industrial engines with complete fuel management systems for propane and gasoline operation. TeleflexGFI is also responsible for ensuring the systems meet emissions requirements throughout the full useful lifespan. The TeleflexGFI fuel system and engine assemblies are currently used in the Hyster® and Yale® brands of forklift trucks manufactured by NACCO Materials Handling Group.

The TeleflexGFI-developed systems utilize a proprietary closed-loop sequential multi-point fuel injection technology, combined with three-way catalytic conversion, to deliver superior emissions performance over typical industrial systems, as recognized by multiple CARB certifications.

Our fuel injection system helps improve engine responsiveness while providing end users with more options for fleet emissions averaging, said TeleflexGFI General Manager Graham Moss. TeleflexGFI continues to set the bar for environmental compliance as we reduce the emissions footprint of our customers equipment. The recent certifications show that TeleflexGFI provides its customers with systems that go well beyond the current requirements of the regulating authorities.

TeleflexGFI is a key part of our extensive portfolio of capabilities and solutions to improve vehicle fuel management and reduce emissions, said Teleflex Power Systems President Kam Mofid. We have always been committed to improving the environment with our products and have developed our systems with both lower smog-forming emissions and lower greenhouse gases as our target.
