Washington DC January 22, 2007; The AIADA newsletter reported that Automotive News is featuring a study released last week by the Center for Automotive Research, which shows that automotive suppliers are responsible for more jobs than any other manufacturing group in the United States.
Automotive suppliers directly employ 783,100 American workers and contribute to 4.5 million jobs nationwide. Nearly 2 million of those indirect jobs are in support industries.
Automotive suppliers provide more jobs than any other sector in seven states - Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee - and account for more than 15,000 jobs in each of nine other states.
Suppliers' total annual payroll, including benefits, is $253 billion or an average of $45,790 per worker annually.
Despite challenges facing the automotive industry, automotive suppliers account for more jobs and provide more economic stability to Americans than any other manufacturing sector
