Drag Racing Season Highlighted by 20th Anniversary of NHRA in Sonoma
More Than 40 Days of Drag Racing Planned at Infineon Raceway for 2007 Season
SEASON HIGHLIGHTED BY 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF NHRA DRAG RACING IN SONOMA
SONOMA, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2007) - Infineon Raceway will feature more than 40 days of drag-racing action during the 2007 season, highlighted by the 20th anniversary of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
The world famous drag strip, considered one of the quickest and fastest in the country, will host 41 days of drag racing in all, including the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 27-29.
Six of eight professional track records were broken at last year's event in Sonoma, as well as a world record in Pro Stock. The drag strip was especially strong for Pro Stock Motorcycle as Antron Brown became the third member in drag racing history to post a six-second run - in all, four Pro Stock Motorcycle riders cracked the six-second barrier, and the event featured the quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle field in history. Similar results are expected in 2007 as Infineon Raceway celebrates the NHRA's 20th visit to the Sonoma Valley.
The national event will begin a two-week bonanza for drag-race enthusiasts as Infineon Raceway will host the CAL-STEAM/KOHLER NHRA Division 7 Drag Races the following weekend, Aug. 3-5. The event is part of the Lucas Oils Drag Racing Series.
Infineon Raceway will also host two annual programs for drag racing fans: the Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series and the raceway's popular Wednesday Night Drags, which enters its 19th consecutive season in 2007. Both programs are designed for even the novice drag racer. The first Summit ET points event for 2007 is scheduled for Jan. 28, while the California Army National Guard Wednesday Night Drags begins on March 7.
The Top the Cops(tm) program, which gives high school students the opportunity to drag race against local law enforcement officers, will run in conjunction with the weekly Wednesday Night Drags.
