Automotive Giant General Motors Joins the Party at the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--General Motors, the world’s largest automaker, has agreed to support auction activities, lifestyle events and automotive demonstrations as a major sponsor of the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event from Jan. 13-21, 2007, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The auction will feature more than 1,200 of the world’s finest collector automobiles, attract over 225,000 visitors and be featured on SPEED with 40 hours of live coverage.
“For nearly a century, GM has led the charge in automotive innovation, design and safety, which is evident due to their unmatched reach in today’s competitive marketplace,” said Craig Jackson, CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “The impact of an industry power like GM will be evident in every aspect of this event, from the auction to the Lifestyle Pavilion. We’ve united the world’s largest automaker and the world’s premier collector car event for an automotive celebration to remember.”
GM’s 10,000-square-foot display will include Cadillac and Chevrolet exhibits featuring the newest models fitted with GM Performance Parts. An OnStar booth and a GM-licensed memorabilia tent will also be provided by the automaker. An exclusive GM Ride and Drive will give attendants the opportunity to take the reins of select new GM automobiles for a test-drive on a private track.
“GM is proud to be a sponsor of Barrett-Jackson,” noted Tom Conwell, Director of Auto Shows and Operations at GM. “They have a rich history of selling some of the most popular muscle cars as well as vehicles with industry-leading design. Barrett-Jackson’s reputation of selling the very best vehicles of our past makes it a perfect environment for GM to be represented.”
According to Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, “GM automobiles have played a major role in the Barrett-Jackson auction for many years. GM’s contributions to this year’s event will help us create the largest, most significant collector car auction in our long history. It is also fitting that we have one of the most significant offerings of Corvettes ever assembled for sale, including the ‘Last’ Stingray.”
Barrett-Jackson continually reaffirms its leadership position in the collector car market by elevating consignment standards, challenging annual records and serving as the barometer for market trends. Last year, more than 300,000 attendees and millions of television viewers from around the world witnessed over 1,600 cars being auctioned off for approximately $135 million at the two 2006 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Events held in Scottsdale and Palm Beach, Fla.
