Driver News - Mike Vincec: The Year Ahead
Reigning Canadian National & Regional ICC Champion sets sites on busy 2007
January 9, 2007 - Stouffville,  ON - With a national championship, two regional championships and a pick as the 2006 Stars of Karting  Rookie of The Year, fifteen year old Mike Vincec has been anticipating the chance to get back behind the wheel and race. He will get his chance very soon as he rejoins with Cameron Motorsports’ national team and heads to Homestead for the first round of the Florida Winter Tour taking place January 12 -14.
Entering his second year of competition in the senior ICC (Intercontinental C) class, Mike is looking to build on the success he enjoyed with Cameron Motorsports and tuner Brian Bettencourt through the 2006 racing season. In 2007 he will continue to compete in the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) series and the team is also planning to contest the complete Snap of Stars of Karting (STARS) series. While Mike ran in three classes in SRFKC events in 2006, this year the concentration will be the ICC class in both series as well as Rotax at SRFKC. "We had a great year but running three classes really puts a lot of pressure on both Brian and myself", noted Mike. "This year, especially with the team's plan to run a full STARS schedule, we will need to focus on ICC to ensure a strong finish in both series." He continued, "Our hope is to repeat in SRFKC and make a serious run for the championship in STARS."
Mike and the Cameron Motorsports crew will also attend some very special one-off events such as the ASN Canadian Nationals and the Rock Island Grand Prix. Mike is the reigning Formula Sr. (ICC) champion having won the 2006 edition of the ASN Canadian Nationals. According to Mike, "this is going to be a pretty busy year for us".
But it is not all about karts in 2007. Last year, Mike received a scholarship, courtesy of Formula Car Magazine and the Howden Media Group, to attend the Formula BMW Licensing course in Valencia, Spain. His performance garnered much attention and invites to test with a number of teams. Mike has participated in a few test days and plans to continue testing to hone his skills in the hopes of landing a ride in the Formula BMW USA series. Â Â Â
It is reported that at least one team has offered Mike a chance to compete in a Formula Renault in a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) regional series. "I have tested with the team in the 2-litre Formula Renault and it has more power than the Formula BMW" reports Mike. "Getting seat time in a proven open-wheel series will certainly allow me to learn competitive race craft and be a big help when getting into the Formula BMW USA series in the near future". Mike is currently seeking funding for this opportunity.
In the meantime though, Mike is looking forward to heading south with his Cameron Motorsports team and coming home with a successful run in the Florida Winter Tour. The first race for ICC takes place January 12-14 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Mike will also be launching a redesigned web site just prior to the first event. You can visit www.mikev.ca for news updates and race results.
