McIntosh Earns Autosport Top-Six Ranking For World Series Campaign
Vancouver, Canada (January 05, 2007) - Autosport Magazine, the
world's leading weekly motorsport publication, has again recognized
the accomplishments of Canada's Sean McIntosh as he climbs the
open-wheel racing ladder by ranking him as one of their Top-Six 2006
World Series by Renault Drivers following the 21-year-old's rookie
European season.
McIntosh, who raced for the Belgian KTR squad in last year's World
Series by Renault (WSR), placed sixth overall in the final
championship standings, the top Formula Renault 2.0 graduate from a
30-strong international line-up of talent. Autosport, in their
review of the WSR season in the latest edition of the magazine,
published Thursday 4th January 2007, placed the Vancouver-native
sixth in their guide to the year's movers and shakers in the category.
Pointing out his season-ending pole position in Barcelona as a
notable highlight as well as his second-placed podium finish earlier
in the year at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium,
the Autosport review comments on what was "a very promising season
for the Canadian."
"It's always an honor to be recognized for your accomplishments, not
least by a publication with the reputation enjoyed by Autosport,"
Sean stated. "This was my first season racing across Europe with a
lot to take onboard as a rookie in a fiercely competitive series. To
finish the season sixth overall was satisfying given some of the
obstacles we faced and I think it underlined what I had achieved
previously in A1GP and in the Formula Renault UK Championship. I'm
working on a return to the World Series in 2007 having had such an
encouraging debut season and for sure I want a crack at the
championship this time round."
McIntosh, Canada's sole open-wheel racing representative in Europe
last year, reveled in a season that saw him make his race debuts at
such illustrious venues as Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans and the
Nurburgring. Stepping up to the 425bhp Formula Renault 3.5-ltr car,
Sean netted podium finishes at Spa and Barcelona while capturing a
total of ten top-ten finishes and one pole position on his way to
sixth overall behind eventual Champion, Comtec Racing's Alx
Danielsson, the Swede unsurprisingly taking top-honors in Autosport's
Top-Six WSR Driver Ranking.
While he has yet to confirm his plans for the 2007 season, Sean has
kept busy since the World Series campaign ended in Spain last
October. Returning to familiar ground, Sean has since raced twice
for A1 Team Canada in the 2006-07 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. A
top-five Feature finish in Malaysia in November was followed by a
frustrating run in Indonesia last month where Sean, the defending
race champion, was ultimately sidelined by a wayward left-rear tire
during the Feature race.
