DETROIT, Jan. 5, 2007 -- WHAT: The EyesOn Design Awards at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) 2007; the only international automotive design awards to be judged solely by designers. Four prestigious awards will be given that define specific elements of automotive design. Gale will be joined by: - Niels Diffrient - Niels Diffrient Product Design, (Industrial Design and Architecture - Commercial Furniture) - Ridgefield CT - Charles M Jordan - Vice President of Design, General Motors (Retired) - Peter Stevens - Automotive Designer - UK - Jack Telnack - Vice President Global Design, Ford Motor Co (Retired) A Design Jury comprised of an international panel of 20 highly- respected designers with representation from directors of design for several major international vehicle manufacturers, independent designers, domestic and foreign design colleges, and retired automotive design chiefs will judge all new vehicles introduced at NAIAS 2007. WHEN: Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm at the Michigan Hall Stage, Cobo Center, Detroit, Michigan. WHY: As the premier international auto show, the NAIAS hosts many outstanding design introductions each year and 2007 is expected to be one of the biggest ever. The EyesOn Design Awards at NAIAS are only given at the NAIAS and the awards are unique in that they are decided upon by some of the most respected automotive design experts in the world. The EyesOn Design Awards at NAIAS are a coveted measure of achievement by automotive designers given that the awards are judged and presented by a jury of their peers. The EyesOn Design Awards at NAIAS are presented by the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO), an internationally-recognized non-profit known for its programs that help the blind and visually-impaired through research, education and support groups. Please note: The judges will be on the show floor the morning of January 9th to conduct the judging. Since they will have a very tight timeframe, we respectfully ask that you refrain from approaching them for interviews during the judging process. All designers will be available for interviews immediately at the conclusion of the awards ceremony at 1:00 pm.
