EMC Avamar(R) Named As One of the Top-Five Storage Developments of the Year by eWeek Labs

HOPKINTON, Mass., Dec. 19, 2006 -- EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that eWeek Labs -- the technology testing arm of eWeek magazine -- has chosen EMC Avamar(R) data de-duplication software as one of the top-five storage developments for the year. Recently acquired by EMC, Avamar Technologies advances EMC's core strengths in information protection and recovery management, which dramatically enhances the way customers protect their data and accelerates the widespread move from tape to disk-based recovery solutions.

Victor Loh, eWeek technical analyst, said, "Easy to use and manage, Avamar Technologies' Axion 3.5 is an innovative disk-based backup solution with functionality that, in today's regulatory-sensitive environment, will soon be seen more as a requirement than as a luxury."

Avamar software uses patented data de-duplication technology to backup data once -- and only once -- on a global basis. Avamar identifies redundant data segments at the source, thereby reducing the amount of network bandwidth used and data stored. Using this and other patented Avamar technologies, customers can achieve an industry-leading 300:1 daily data reduction in real- world applications.
