Freescale Now Shipping First PowerQUICC™ II Pro Embedded Processor in Volume
AUSTIN, Texas--Manufacturers of residential and office gateway devices and other networking equipment can now leverage the high integration, exceptional price/performance ratios and leading-edge connectivity options of the MPC8349E PowerQUICC™ II Pro device from Freescale Semiconductor.
Currently shipping in volume quantities, the device performed well in recently released benchmark tests of relevance to home/office gateway markets and other applications. The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium® (EEMBC) has issued certified benchmark scores based on a series of tests conducted on the processor to help designers predict device performance in a range of real-world applications. Detailed score reports are available for free on the EEMBC Web site at www.eembc.org.
“When compared to the EEMBC scores of other devices offered at similar price points and relative frequencies, the MPC8349E is especially adept at TCP/IP code processing and network packet handling and routing,” said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. “These results also should be viewed in the context of additional functionality of the part not addressed by the EEMBC benchmarks, including features such as a DMA controller, an advanced security engine and Gigabit Ethernet capabilities.”
The first PowerQUICC II Pro product line to leverage a system-on-chip (SoC) architecture, the MPC8349E is based on the e300 core and enables rapid reconfiguration of functional blocks to address customer and market needs. The processor is well suited for highly integrated, cost-sensitive applications, particularly due to its high clock speed (up to 667MHz), high level of integration and flexible interfaces.
The part is ideal for applications where space, power consumption and performance are critical requirements. Applications include home, office and media gateways, Ethernet routers and switches, wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment, embedded security devices, network attached storage, industrial control, line cards and imaging equipment.
