Lapeer Area Family of Six Loses Mother in Fatal Collision; Gains Van and Help for the Holidays From Palace Chrysler Jeep
Tragic Double Impact Collision Hospitalizes Surviving Father
Palace Chrysler Jeep Employees Provide Van, Insurance and Cash Donation
LAKE ORION, Mich., Dec. 18 -- A Lapeer family with six children who lost their mother in a fatal double collision is now facing a better Christmas with the donation of a van and cash from Palace Chrysler Jeep and their employees.
Rick Amyx Jr. stopped to make a left turn late last month and was struck in the rear by another vehicle. The impact pushed the Amyx car across the center line and was struck broadside by an oncoming vehicle. Rick's wife and mother of their six children, Siobhan Amyx, died in the accident. Rick and two of their six children were transported to the Hurly hospital by ambulance.
The Amyx vehicle was a total loss, and the family had no collision insurance.
The accident left Rick injured and out of work with him and his children facing a bleak Christmas and the holidays.
The Milosch family and Palace Chrysler Jeep employees stepped up to assist with a mini van from their dealership in Lake Orion. The Miloschs learned of the tragedy from local news media reports.
"When we heard about the family's situation, it tugged at our hearts and we wanted to help, especially with Christmas around the corner," said Brian Milosch, co-owner of Palace Chrysler Jeep. "We put ourselves in his shoes and did what we hope someone would do for us and our families."
Palace Chrysler Jeep is providing a van with seven passenger seating, tons of storage and cargo room. Ken Spindler of Farmers Insurance is providing insurance coverage for six months to give the family peace of mind.
"Our store employees are pooling their personal resources to further help the family this holiday season, and they have already collected nearly six hundred dollars," added Milosch.
Rick was recently released from the hospital and is recuperating at home with his eldest child, Ryan, 12. The other five children, Samantha, 5, Athena, 4, Kristian, 3, Demitrius, 18 months and one-month-old Keegan, are with family members as Rick regains his strength. "There are no words to describe the amazing support from the community," said Amyx. "It's breathtaking."
Those who want to help the Amyx family can send donations to: Lapeer County Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 250, Lapeer, MI 48446. Donations should be marked for the Amyx family.
