Kansas Man Wins Museum Raffle
AUBURN - Melvin Massey of Denton, Kansas, was the first-place winner in the
"Ticket to Ride" raffle drawing, held Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. in the showroom of
the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum. The grand prize winner this year received
a cash prize split with the museum. Massey and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg
Museum will each receive approximately $16,000.
Dave Buckey of Chagrin Falls, Ohio will receive $2,000 as the
second-place winner and Lorraine Gregory of Milford, Pennsylvania will
receive $1,000 as the third-place winner.
Massey, 47, was ecstatic about winning this year's top prize, "It was a lot
to grasp. I couldn't believe it. I was in meetings all day and our manager
told us all to put our phones on vibrate. My phone rang and I recognized the
number and thought I won the second or third prize maybe. It never crossed
my mind that I could have just won the top prize." Massey has a good friend
to thank for his recent windfall, "I have a good friend who used to live
across the street from me. He's a museum member and an avid car guy who owns
a couple of Cords. He's the person who got me into buying these raffle
tickets. When I called and told him that I had just won, he said that he was
really happy for me. He said the only way he could be any happier was if it
were he that won!"
All museum trustees and staff members, except executive director Laura
Brinkman, executive vice president Matt Short and business manager Jan
Schippers, were eligible, along with the public, to enter the raffle. All
proceeds from the raffle benefit the not-for-profit Auburn Cord Duesenberg
Museum.
The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum exhibits over 120 classic, vintage,
antique and special interest cars in the 1930 art deco headquarters of the
former Auburn Automobile Company. The museum is open daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.,
except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It is accredited
by the American Association of Museums and listed as a National Historic
Landmark.
