E85 fuel is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline to be used in Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFVs). FFVs are available from several automobile manufacturers. For a complete listing, visit http://www.e85fuel.com/ . There are now over 1,000 publicly and privately accessed E85 fueling locations throughout the United States -- ten times the amount that existed in 2002. Michigan is home to over 30 of these locations, and approximately 225,000 of the more than four million FFVs on the road. A FFV can operate on ordinary gasoline blended with up to 85 percent ethanol and all combinations in between. At the grand opening event, only consumers with FFVs will be allowed to fill their vehicles with E85.

In 2003, Michigan consumers utilized more than 150 million gallons of ethanol, up from 90 million gallons the previous year. There are three ethanol plants currently operational in the state of Michigan: Michigan Ethanol, LLC in Caro, producing 40-50 million gallons of ethanol per year; The Andersons Albion Ethanol, LLC in Albion, annually producing 55 million gallons of ethanol; and US Bio Woodbury in Lake Odessa, producing 45 million gallons of ethanol annually. There are also two plants in the construction stage and others in various stages of development.
