Nissan Launches Next-Generation Fuel Cell Vehicle

Washington DC December 11, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Nissan announced it will launch a new fuel cell vehicle for Japan and North America for early 2010 as part of the company's "Nissan Green Program 2010."

The program includes introducing gasoline engine technologies that will enhance fuel economy which reduces carbon dioxide emissions equal to diesel engine levels. In the mid-term, Nissan COO Toshiyuki Shiga said the company will focus on the internal combustion engine as the primary power source for its vehicles, while concentrating on improving engine efficiency.

Nissan will also unveil a 100-percent bioethanol fuel ready model for the Brazilian market by 2009 and plans to introduce an electric vehicle starting in Japan during the early part of the next decade, according to The Associated Press.
